The Clairemont Captains earned their first victory of the 2026 season Friday night, defeating Castle Park 40-8 on the road.

Clairemont came out with a strong performance on both sides of the ball, controlling the game from start to finish and putting together one of its most complete performances of the season.

Junior quarterback Timothy Cox led the way offensively with an impressive all-around performance. Cox completed 6 of 12 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 112 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on 10 carries.

The Captains’ receiving corps also delivered big plays throughout the night. Khyree Shannon recorded three receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown, while also making a major impact defensively with an interception returned for a touchdown.

Malachi Gutierrez provided another explosive performance through the air, finishing with three receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, senior Jessen Heide helped anchor the Captains’ effort, recording eight tackles and one tackle for loss as Clairemont held Castle Park to just eight points.

The 40-8 victory gives the Captains their first win of the season and provides momentum heading into the next week of the schedule.
