BWP TORCHES FALCONS FOR 19; OFF TO 1-0 START IN LEAGUE PLAY

CLAIREMONT 19 – SCRIPPS RANCH 10

It was all Clairemont at Miramar College Wednesday night as 7 Captains found the back of the cage in a big win to open up the City League play.  The Caps jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.  It all started with Clairemont’s centers, Senior Preston Coleman and Junior Corbin Giles, who were unstoppable in the middle with a combined 7 total goals in the game.  The strong center play forced the Falcon defense into a zone, but just allowed Freshmen Ryder Sagastume and Junior Graham West to pick the Scripps goalie apart from the top as they combined for 8 total goals.  And if the dual threat of the inside and outside game wasn’t enough, the Captains speed demons, Senior Ian Spears and Juniors Ryan Fegan and Shawn Spears, unleashed a devastating counter attack for another 4 goals.  But the offense wasn’t the only thing cooking on Wednesday.  Clairemont’s goalies, Junior Cullen Holland and Sophomore Derek Pryor, each went 12 for 17 for a 70% save percentage to completely stifle the Falcon attack.  Great win and great start to a tough City League schedule!
